ITFS 2014 - Trickstars for the best animated films have been awarded

Tuesday, 29. April 2014

On Sunday, April 27, 2014, the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film ended with the big award ceremony.

In 2014, the ITFS again lived up to its reputation as an event highlight and magnet for all animation enthusiasts. With a new record of 85,000 visitors the previous year's figure was surpassed. At the same time, the ITFS underlined its importance as a central event for the animation industry in Germany. A total of 2,500 industry participants (including Combi Tickets for ITFS and FMX 2014) were on site.

As a new industry event highlight the gala event "Stories and Series in the New Castle" took place for the first time. The ceremonies of German Screenplay Award and Tricks for Kids Award for the best animated series were held in the White Hall of the New Castle. Further information ...

At the same time, the double award ceremony in the New Castle formed the opening for the eighth Animation Production Day (APD), the most important business platform for the animation industry in Germany. Around 100 participants from 10 countries negotiated on 33 projects in this co-production and co-financing market for German and international animation projects, jointly organized by the FMX and ITFS. Further information ...

The German Voice Actor Award did not only find a new venue with the Renitenztheater, but was also held as an independent event – “Animation Comedy” – for the first time. Actress Josefine Preuß won the award for her voice acting in “Epic“.

Proven successful, the Mercedes-Benz Museum has continued to be the place for the presentation of the Animated Com Award, which includes the prices for animated commercial work in the three categories advertising, technology and spatial communication. Further information ...

Numerous animated feature films celebrated their German premiere at the ITFS, including "The House of Magic", directed by Ben Stassen, who was together with Kalle Friz, Chief Operating Officer Studio Canal Germany also a guest at the festival.

Another great attraction for ITFS industry participants were the screenplay workshops: The workshops with industry giants like Eric Shaw (SpongeBob, Word Girl) and Max Howard (former president of Warner Bors Feature Animation and vice president of Walt Disney Feature Animation) were fully booked.

Popular with industry and with the audience proved the very well attended studio presentations: When Mark Shapiro, chief marketing officer of Laika, gave a first insight into the new stop-motion animated film "The Boxtrolls", some visitors had to take a seat on the stairs of the cinema. Large crowds attended also the Tokyo University of Arts.

The greatly expanded Game Zone was not only a place to play, but also took the industry side of the gaming world into account. In presentations, lectures and workshops by games experts and representatives of game companies, including Matt Adams (Blast Theory) and Annika Waern (Uppsala University, Sweden), the potential of this scope of animation became clear, what training opportunities facilitate the entry into games industry and what distribution options are available.

The next Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film will be held from May 5 to May 10, 2015.
