With a remarkable caprice, Katrin Magnitz designs and tells contemporary history stories from a personal perspective, unconventionally portraying the many \u201eGoethen\u201c or the life of a woman with an increasingly tranquil self-confidence – unusual, reflected, political. Starting in the 1970s, the perfect biotope for her experiments from pop-art style to rapid cross-fading techniques was the rebellious cinegrafik studio in Hamburg and the artistic movement that took place there with others including Robert Darrol and Ursula Asher-Winzentsen. With the latter, in the 1980s Katrin Magnitz put a remarkable point on the worlds of adults and children in films in which stories unfold with a slightly surreal touch, e.g. \u201cDie Erfindung des Kabeljaus\u201d (The invention of the codfish), standing for an era of courageous children\u2019s television. Born in Milano in 1938, Bruno Bozzetto is widely regarded as Italy\u2019s leading animator. In 1958 he had significant success with \u201cTapum! La storia delle armi\u201d and soon after established his company Bruno Bozzetto Film. In 1960, with \u201cUn Oscar per il Signor Rossi\u201d, he gave birth to the distinctive little man with the red hat who would become the Bozzetto trademark and which is nowadays among the animation classics. In 1976, together with actor and animator Maurizio Nichetti, Bruno Bozzetto made \u201cAllegro Non Troppo\u201d, which mixed live action and animation to illustrate six pieces of classical music including Maurice Ravel\u2019s \u201cBolero\u201d, Jean Sibelius\u2019s \u201cValse Triste\u201d and Antonio Vivaldi\u2019s \u201cConcerto in C Major\u201d. The film can be considered a parody of Walt Disney\u2019s \u201cFantasia\u201d, but unlike the Disney classic, \u201cAllegro Non Troppo\u201d does not attempt to visualize the music in the drawings, but develops its own themes, using the music as a deluxe accompaniment. Bruno Bozzetto has been awarded many prizes, among them the Golden Bear for “Mister Tao” at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1990 and the Oscar nomination for “Grasshoppers” in 1991 as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Animafest Zagreb in 1998. His humour is rooted in American comedy, but with a soft rhythm and a great taste for surrealism merged with ethical themes and a lucid pessimism for the human race. Each of his films is characterized by Bruno Bozzetto\u2019s unique sense for combining rhythms and colours with action, comic timing and original fantasy. Animation artist Ann Marie Fleming is a wanderer between styles and cultures. In \u201cThe Magical Life of Long Tack Sam\u201d (2003), a documentary family portrait of her greatuncle, she falls back on old family films which she combines with interview sequences and animations. The interweaving of animation, live action and oral history is characteristic of her work, which alwayspoints beyond her own person and is part of a cultural history of migration. As a former fellow of the Akademie Schloss Solitude, Ann Marie Fleming has a personal connection to Stuttgart, where she produced the film \u201cGreat Expectations\u201d together with Studio FILM BILDER. Rosie Ming, a young Canadian poet, is invited to perform at a poetry festival in Shiraz, Iran, but she\u2019d rather go to Paris. Daniel \u0160ulji\u0107 currently lives in Zagreb and Vienna. Since 2011 he has been artistic director of the \u201cWorld Festival of Animated Film \u2013 Animafest Zagreb\u201d. But above all, Daniel \u0160ulji\u0107 is a filmmaker, illustrator, and musician. As a musician, he tours in Austria and Croatia with the electronic pop band Roppongi Red. His films were shown at numerous international festivals for animated film to include Stuttgart, Espinho, Fantoche, Annecy, Hiroshima, and Utrecht, and have earned him 20 awards so far. Daniel \u0160ulji\u0107 loves to experiment with film. He develops individual techniques which he skilfully applies in the telling of his stories, behind the simple facade of which adeeper meaning is always hidden. In his graduation film \u201cSonne, Salz und Meer\u201d, he paints a melancholy picture of his home with coffee on glass. His first film, which attracted international attention, is the paint-on-glass animation \u201cThe Cake\u201d (1997). A group of people are trying to outsmart each other to get the biggest piece of the cake. In \u201cFilm with a Girl\u201d (2000), with sketchy and in part childlike black-and-white images, he tells the story of a brave girl who encounters scary situations andpeople on a walk through a town but keeps her chin up. Together with Johanna Freise he made \u201cShort Life\u201d in 2007, a hand-drawn film with dynamic image sequences tracing the characters\u2019 motions on a psychological level and, in light-dark, reflecting the black-and-white inner world of a girl. With his latest film \u201cTransparency\u201d (2015) Daniel \u0160ulji\u0107 tackles a hot topic, portraying a world of surveillance as the result of the obsessive and unthoughtful use of social media and other online services.<\/p>\n
