Animated Architecture
curated by Cornelia und Holger Lund
A new visual culture has come to dominate the presentation of architecture in recent years: animated digital visualisation, boosted by ever growing computer capacities, is now the tool of choice to render both actual building projects and futuristic architectural visions. When architectural designs are shown in an exhibition context today, often videos have to carry the issue and form even the highlight of the presentation. The video visualisations incorporate elements of music, graphics and text within a realisation of architectural vision. The term "vision" can be taken quite literally here, since this technique allows the user to envisage not only commissioned architecture, but also free architectural design and experimental work. The selected videos are made by architects but not exclusively as artists and designers are also dealing with architectonical questions in architecture shorts.

CARTOON D’OR
The Cartoon d'Or is the only European prize specific to the animation film industry. The idea is original because this award is based on the most important European festivals for animation films.
Indeed, only the European animated shorts awarded at one of these partner festivals are allowed to compete for the Cartoon d’Or.
CARTOON, with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, conceived the Cartoon d’Or as a springboard: this important trophy will be awarded together with a financial aid, to be used by the winning director to start a new and more ambitious project, such as feature film or a TV-special.

BW REEL
The BW-Rolle programme comprises animated films from Baden-Wuerttemberg which were produced last year. It includes student productions from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg and from the Media University in Stuttgart. The Stuttgart region’s independent studio scene is also well represented thanks to the inclusion of Studio Soi and Studio Film Bilder - two internationally successful companies.
The longer films are interspersed with (social) spots. These demonstrate with which originality and conciseness specific messages can be conveyed in animated film.

Singapore Animation Shorts
Singapore animation is still in its infancy, with animated short films being a minority in the short films produced in the country.
The films present an enthralling and diverse picture of the current state of Singapore animation, which is still in a fledgling state. Hopefully, with more animation professionals we will see more animation short films in the coming years.

Steinerei - Best of Brickfilm
Selected productions from five years of Steinerei moderated by the founder of Steinerei Mathias Mertens and the brick film expert Karin Wehn.
A brick film is an animated film produced using bricks. And this more or less sums up the import of this genre – for films which are produced using Lego or other click brick toys possess a transnational charm which unites generations and to which almost no-one who has ever had studded bricks in their hand is immune. The German “Steinerei” festival has been held since 2005 and is the only independent festival for brick films worldwide. This annual competition has brought about an immense increase in both the creativity and quality of amateur productions. Anything is possible – from a walk through Legoland and spy thrillers to reflections on the character of cinema or 5 million years of human history.
