Exhibition: Phantom Horizons

Wed, April 10, 2019 – Sat, June 1st, 2019, Galerie b, City library (Mailänder Platz, Suttgart), Mon – Sat, 9 am – 9 pm

Opening: Wed, April 10, 2019, 7 pm, curators talk with Robert Seidel: Fri, May 3, 2019, 5 pm

Artist Robert Seidel has been curating the ongoing film programme “Phantom Horizons” for Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin since 2015. The presented spectrum of works ranges from animation to experimental film and video art, questioning the paradigm of central perspective and searching a new kind of “status perspective” – based on an approach taken from medieval painting, where the size of represented characters was determined by their status within the hierarchy.

Crazy Horse Session – 48h Animation Jam

Five selected two-person teams develop an animated film live and within 48 hours. All teams use the same given character (Trixi, the Festival’s mascot, or the award statue, the Trickstar), to tell a short story and in doing so demonstrate their skills with regard to storytelling, graphic style and animation software. You can look over the artists’ shoulder while they work at Jugendhaus Mitte.

48h Animation Jam: Wed, May 1st, 12 pm – Fri, Nay 3, 12 pm, Jugendhaus Mitte
Award ceremony: Sat, May 4, 2019, Open Air/Festival Garden, 7:30 pm

LUXX Studios: Studiotour

Organised by Film Commission Region Stuttgart. Meetingpoint and application at the Infotheque/Gloria-Passage Stuttgart.

LUXX Studios bring visions to life! Since 2006 already, the team has been designing visual effects and animations for international feature productions such as “The Grand Budapest Hotel” by Wes Anderson or “Independence Day: Resurgence” by Roland Emmerich. “Manou the Swift” is the latest animated film which has been playing in movie theatres since the end of February 2019. This family film is the first 3D animation feature film to be completely developed and produced in Baden-Württemberg.

Participants get to visit a real 3D animation film studio and meet the artists who create future visions, historic places or fantastic locations, depicting them in such a detailed and realistic way that the viewers dive into a world of magic. The LUXX Studio team, the producers and directors will present their works and answer questions: how can 3D artists evoke the depiction of human feelings a bird? How are the realistic settings of the Côte d’Azur designed? And where did the producers get the idea to tell the story of the little swift Manou?
