Highlights for Professionals

Workshop talks and screenplay workshops

In our workshop talks and screenplay workshops, creatives give insight into their working methods and current projects. The workshops are offered in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Stiftung Baden-Württemberg e.V. and the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg (MFG).

In cooperation with the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung, this year’s winners of the Comic Book Award, Sheree Domingo and Patrick Spät, will give an insight into the creation of “Madame Choi and the Monsters”. The workshop talk “Sisters of the Mist” also deals with the connection between comics and animation. ANIDOX: LAB is dedicated to documentary animated film, LAVAMACHINE is all about stereoscopic animated films, and on Sunday Jürgen Hagler talks about Expanded Animation as part of Fokus Austria.

Masterclass: Meet Ze Artists

In this masterclass, Renaud Armanet demonstrates the magic of combining sound and image, in particular the impact of the soundtrack on the image and the many ways to convey an emotion in the narrative of a film.

School presentations: Study Animation

Leading universities showcase their students’ current animated work. Especially for young people who consider to work in animation and film, the presentations are worth a visit. In the school presentation Focus Austria, three renowned film and animation universities present themselves together: the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria -Campus Hagenberg and the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg. The National Film and Television School Beaconsfield presents two programs named “50 Years of NFTS” on the occasion of its school anniversary. And from the Stuttgart region, the Hochschule der Medien and the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg are represented.

The animated episodic film “The House” tells three life stories that all take place in the same house. The black-humored comedy was produced by Nexus Studios for Netflix. In this Behind the Scenes talk, the directors involved talk about the project.

Indie Online Research Project: XR Content Distriubution

XR content enables an entirely new kind of artistic and creative storytelling and requires an entirely new production process for the creators who produce it. Michelle Kranot presents Indie Online’s research on the distribution landscape for XR content.

Cartoon Network meets Hochschule Luzern

Cartoon Network and the Lucerne School of Art and Design have been cooperating for many years, and everyone involved is thrilled. Students at the university produce idents for the TV station. These are part of the program alongside award-winning animated films by the bachelor’s and master’s students and series highlights from Cartoon Network.
