The GameZone is our digital playground and dedicated to different formats – from indie games and virtual reality installations to game jams, hackathons and GameZone Talks. The GameZone has established itself as a particularly dynamic area at the ITFS. Since GameZone was first held in 2013 until today, the number of visitors has risen from 500 in the beginning to around 16,000. In recent years, the GameZone has mainly taken place in the Kunstgebäude, with other venues including the Kunstmuseum, Breuninger and the Jugendhaus Mitte.

The unique selling point of the GameZone is the combination of animation and games and the associated strong visual and aesthetic orientation of the games on offer. In addition, GameZone addresses content-related and qualitative aspects of interactive applications in the context of social and cultural effects and possibilities like no other comparable event.

GameZone Talks

Creating*Diversity

WED, 05.05., 11 AM – 1 PM

In 2019, the the German Games Industry Association (game) launched the initiative “Hier spielt Vielfalt #TEAMDIVERSITY”, a joint declaration of the German games industry for more diversity in the industry. A lot has happened since then and we would like to take this as an opportunity for a panel discussion on the topic: On our panel, we would like to discuss equal opportunities and the resulting diversity regardless of gender and gender identity, nationality, ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age, language, sexual orientation and identity.

GameZone Talks

Wonderwomen – Women in Games & Animation

FRI, 07.05., 7 PM

The panel “Wonderwomen – Women in Games & Animation” gathers women with different perspectives on and from the field of games, who have been shaping and advancing discourses on digital games for years and/or are currently doing so at the highest professional and scientific level. To claim that women neither play computer games nor are
involved in their production and discussion is simply wrong! The panel will bring together influential women from the games field to reflect on their careers and their roles within the contexts around digital games.

Local Heroes – Kokolores & Friends

Kokolores is a collective and office community for companies and freelancers from the creative industries. They create films, web series, VR experiences and video games, among other things. As part of GameZone, several members present themselves and their projects at OnlineFestival.ITFS.de. And because more can be achieved together, they will also bring along a few companies from the region.

Creating*Diversity Game Jam

FRI, 07.05. – SUN, 09.05.

With the Creating*Diversity Game Jam, we want to let the gamer-nerd cliché out of the basement. Video games have the potential to represent people in our society as diverse as they really are. We want to see more people of different ethnic backgrounds, social origins, sexual orientation and genders, with different physical and mental abilities, young and old in games. During one weekend we want to work on ideas and prototypes for games about diversity, equality, inclusion or discrimination. No prior knowledge is necessary. Both beginners and professionals are invited.
