It is with great regret and due to the spreading of the coronavirus that we, Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH, announce the cancellation of the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) scheduled for May 5 to 10, 2020. This is based on the immediately effective and indefinite decree of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration Baden-Württemberg of Wednesday, March 11, 2020 to the Public Health Departments, according to which large-scale events involving more than 1,000 people must be cancelled as well as today’s decision of the state capital Stuttgart, according to which events in culture, education, sports and leisure as well as meetings, even with less than 1,000 participants, are prohibited with immediate effect.

In the past few days we have been in intensive exchange and close coordination with competent authorities as well as our board members and partners. To protect the health of our staff and audiences from the region and the whole world as well as anyone involved in our events has, of course, the highest priority for us, not only with regard to the current coronavirus threat.

Online Edition of ITFS 2020 and optimal presentation of the 2020 competition entries at the 28th ITFS 2021!

The programme for this year’s ITFS has been established. So as to provide a platform for the more than 1,800 films from around the world submitted for competitions, we are planning a digital version of ITFS for the Festival period from May 5 to 10, 2020, and to make competition entries available for streaming / as video-on-demand. All ITFS 2020 competition entries will also be shown and judged on a big screen in the cinema at the 28th ITFS 2021. The jury meeting for ITFS 2020 will take place in the run-up to ITFS 2021. We would like to present and honour the winners of ITFS 2020 at the opening of the 28th ITFS on May 4, 2021. Thus, our enthusiastic ITFS audiences – locally and globally – will have the pleasure to view the best of recent animated films in the categories short film (International Competition), feature film (AniMovie), student film (Young Animation), and children’s film (Tricks for Kids) in spite of the Festival cancellation in virtual form. On the other hand, the ITFS 2020 competition films will have the opportunity to be screened in 2021 under the best presentation conditions. This also applies to the new competition section “Trickstar Nature”. All further supporting and special programmes shall be presented at ITFS 2021  – as far as possible.

We look forward to the next Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film taking place from May 4 to 9, 2021 and keep you up-to-date on ITFS 2020 online: https://www.itfs.de/news/

Those who want to rise to the challenge of developing interactive experiences within 34 hours to accompany, emphasise, and enrich the live performance of a chamber orchestra, can now apply for the ITFS 2020 Music Game Jam. From all applications received, we will select five teams of up to four persons each for participation.

Submission deadline: March 1, 2020

The competition places classical music at the centre of a game idea. This year the Music Game Jam has the theme “timbres”. Tones become music only through timbres. The difference between hard and velvety tones, between icy sound and delicate noise is the “color”, the carrier of the musical emotionality

The Music Game Jam starts on Friday, May 08, 2020 at 10 a.m. and ends on Saturday, May 09, 2020 at 8 p.m. It is open to creatives, programmers, game designers, graphic artists, sound designers, musicians, students, and anyone interested. Experience in development is not required, but helpful. If desired, SKO musicians offer suggestions and provide assistance for any music-related issues on site.

The Chamber Music Game Jam is organised by the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) in collaboration with Chasing Carrots and the Film Commission Region Stuttgart, and results from a new cooperation with the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (SKO).

The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) is a festival of diversity. Thus, the 27th edition of  ITFS will focus on diversity itself with the motto “Creating*Diversity” and ask the central question: How do animation, games and digital media represent and generate diversity?

Not limiting the definition of the term “diversity” to gender, it also encompasses ethnic, religious, cultural, political, and economic diversity. Diversity is a guarantor and basic condition of democracy. The French terms “diversité” and “difference” make up the DNA of the idea of Europe, while (free) art is a substantial expression of diversity in practice.

At ITFS, diversity is reflected in the different intercultural and international programmes, in the competition entries from more than 90 countries, and not least in Festival guests and visitors.

The works presented at ITFS demonstrate how animation, games and digital media not only represent, but also produce and stimulate diversity. In keeping with the motto “Creating*Diversity”, the supporting programme of  ITFS 2020 includes highlights such as “Copines! Focus on France” and “Wonderwomen – Women in Games & Animation”. At GameZone, ITFS presents the new initiative of professional association Game – Verband der deutschen Games-Branche e.V.: “Hier spielt Vielfalt”.

Submission deadline: March 1, 2020

‘Trickstar Business’ is the name of the animation industry’s business award which will be awarded for the fourd time during Animation Production Days (APD) 2020 by the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS).

From now on, you can apply with a project that has an innovative business concept, for example in the area of financing, distribution, marketing or exploitation of rights. All projects submitted to APD also qualify for the Trickstar Business Award. Companies with an innovative business model can also apply for the award independently of participation in APD.

The Trickstar Business Award is the world’s first animation award to be explicitly focused on business. The prize is worth 7,500 € sponsored by the Stuttgart Region. In 2019, the award winner was the project “CoboStories” by Copenhagen Bombay. The Trickstar Business Award will be awarded on May 8, 2020 in an award gala at the Stuttgart L-Bank Rotunda. There are more information in the regulations and submission form.

We look forward to your application!
