This was the program of FMX 2017:

When the Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart (ITFS) opens its doors for the audience, its partner event FMX – International Conference on Animation, Effects, VR, Games and Transmedia takes place in Stuttgart at the same time.

FMX is Europe’s most influential conference dedicated to Digital Visual Arts, Technologies, and Business. In 2017, FMX takes place under the slogan “Beyond the Screen.” Come to Stuttgart and experience digital entertainment in an exciting new way.

From traditional 2D animation through 3D to Domes, FMX 2017 covers the entire range of audiovisual experiences. What’s more, it will also focus on storytelling beyond the movie theater, including VR and AR, 360° projects, location-based entertainment and geo-localization. However, FMX will not only look at the technological aspects of the topic “Beyond the Screen.” Instead, it will also take into account the broader, more general implications: This year’s theme is a call for open-mindedness and awareness, encouraging each and every one of us to look beyond the screen and to think outside the box. Therefore FMX dedicates a track to “The Quest for Young Talent”, questioning how the latest political events like Brexit may influence the international circulation of young talents – which is vital for entire creative industries. Also in the spotlight: the Automotive Industries and their innovative use of real-time technologies such as the Blackbird project by Epic and The Mill, that allows the real-time integration of virtual vehicles into live environments.

This year’s program also shines with presentations on VFX-intensive productions like “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” the Oscar-winning short film “Piper” as well as the immersive movie “Dear Angelica” that was entirely painted in VR. FMX will also point a spotlight at the movie innovation “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” by director Ang Lee, which combines 3D stereoscopy with 4K and 120 fps. Aside from the captivating conference content, the Marketplace offers you the possibility to marvel at the latest products and developments. At the School Campus aspiring students can gather first-hand information by faculty members and alumni from all over the world. At the Recruiting Hub you might be able to meet your future employer.
