30 years Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film - Highlights ITFS 2012
The Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) is one of the world’s largest and most important festivals for animated film. From May 08 to May 13, 2012 around 1,000 of the best animated films worldwide, representing the whole spectrum of the genre, will be shown at the 19th Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film. The Festival focuses on artistic animated film and the support of young talents. Prize money more then 70,000 Euros is awarded in nine competition categories.
And the entries leave nothing to be desired: in the International competition films from all over the world are competing against each other, including two short film Oscar-nominees. The feature film competition, AniMovie, is teeming with famous voice artists such as singer Vanessa Paradis ("A Monster in Paris") or musician Bryan Adams ("Jock of the Bushveld"). Furthermore, new interesting competitions have been created – for example Cartoons for Teens, a competition specifically for a teenage target group –, the Animated Fashion competition, which has been initiated in co-operation with Breuninger, the fashion house, and the special award "Mercedes-Benz Classic: 60 years of the SL" as part of the Animated Com. competition.
In addition, RAUMWELTEN - the Business Platform for Spatial Communication opens its doors into the wide realm of spatial corporal communication for the first time as part of the ITFS.
The supporting programme also offers exciting highlights such as the school and studio presentations, showcases about famous animated artists and screenplay workshops presented by top-class names. One of this years focal points will be the silhouette film, which has experienced another boom recently. The programme series "Journeying with Shadows" traces current trends regarding silhouette film in Asia, America and Europe, there will be a retrospective about the East German silhouette filmmaker Bruno Böttge and French star director Michel Ocelot will be providing an insight into his work. Despite or even because of the difficult political situation for artists and media representatives in Hungary, we are also focussing on the Hungarian animated film scene.
Last year’s festival attracted around 75,000 visitors and approximately 2,500 accredited guests. Numerous events such as the German Animation Screenplay Award or the Animated Com Award (advertising, technology and communication in space) make the Festival also an important meeting place for the industry. For six exciting days the three incredible events Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film, FMX and Animation Production Day will transform Stuttgart into a "Animated Capital".
With its enthusiastic audiences, a unique location and numerous guests from all over the world, the Festival of Animated Film is now a permanent fixture on the animation film scene and an outstanding cultural event in Germany.
