It’s magic: The Schlossplatz transforms into an open-air cinema thanks to the huge LED screen. With short and feature films for kids and families. Free open-air cinema for everyone. What else do you need but a picnic blanket, family or friends, and a dose of curiosity!
Here, children and young people become animators themselves and set pictures in motion. An experience of educational value: the free workshops promote cultural education, stimulate creativity, and introduce participants to the diversity of animation techniques. For those who prefer to play games, one of the games workshops is the right choice. All these opportunities take place at the Activity Area on Schlossplatz.
Tricks for Kids turns the cinema into a roller coaster: short films from all over the world to make you laugh, marvel and dream. Foreign-language films have a German live voice-over. If the makers of a film are festival guests, they will also be in the cinema to answer the questions of their young audience.

Full-length cinema experiences for children: in 60 minutes or more, our feature film programme offers fascinating, colouful experiences, and great adventures. Foreign-language films have a German live voice-over. If the makers of a film are festival guests, they will also be in the cinema to answer the questions of their young audience.
In a full-day intensive workshop, 11 to 16-year-olds make their own stop-motion film with the support of animation professionals, which will be shown on the big screen at the upcoming festival. First, they develop their story, then they animate it and add sound. The next day, they meet film professionals at the Open-Air before the Tricks for Kids award is presented and the winning films are shown.
