Current developments in generative machine learning can potentially affect all stages of animation production: from concept development, scriptwriting, and storyboarding to character design, animation, and post-production. However, talking about the impact of these developments is difficult because of the different understandings what artificial intelligence is, what it can be used for, and how it could transform animation production. The talk will discuss how these understandings are shaped by marketing hype, economic pressure, and fictional representations of AI.
