Fritzi (12) and Sophie (12) are inseparable friends – until Sophie has to secretly flee to the West with her mother. But Fritzi refuses to accept that she will never see Sophie again. Once in the West, Sophie struggles with prejudices against ‘those from the GDR’, but above all with her homesickness. Fritzi’s attempt to at least hand over her dog Sputnik to Sophie fails at the heavily guarded border. Fritzi realises that only the growing desire for freedom in her country can bring her closer to her goal.
