Introduction

Animation does not necessarily require words to build a storyline or deliver a message – very often animation is a visual poem.

In this selection you can find films that are my favorites for one or another reason. They have caught my attention with their fresh, metaphoric approach or remarkable storytelling. You can find films that include witty humour, sexuality and relationships, as well as melancholic existentialism, but also visual experiments.

I find experimenting something which should remain essential to animation – it helps to build new links between meanings and open up one’s comprehension to reality.

What makes animation so special comparing to live action, is the imaginary visual world, that supports the story by its aesthetics – it has the ability to detach itself from the familiar and the expected, expand borders and reconnect accustomed connotations. Most of these films selected in the program have the power to surprise the audience in one way or another.
